Boyd County High School Universal Design for Learning Page

Boyd County High School was the only high school in Kentucky selected by the University of Louisville and the Kentucky Department of Education as a recipient of a Universal Design for Learning Grant during this school year.  The Universal Design for Learning concept is one which is congruent with the goals of Boyd County Schools, to create lessons and classroom materials to accommodate different learning styles.  Such lessons are designed with the purpose of making the a rigorous and relevant curriculum accessible to all students – students with disabilities, students who are learning English, gifted students, or students who simply learn better through methods other than a teacher’s lecture.  As we are living in a “digital age,” the principles of Universal Design can be effectively achieved through the use of technology.  As recipients of the grant, participants will complete a book study and design model lessons using state-of-the-art technologies.  In doing so, participants will assist in furthering the following significant goals of the district:
·         Model research-based instructional strategies
·         Broaden the delivery of the curriculum using a variety of learning styles
·         Address differentiation in instruction and assessment design
·         Monitor student progress  through formative assessments
·         Increase the use of technology in lesson design
·         Increase professional development offerings in instructional technology
·         Increase the 21st century skills of technology competence needed by all students
